The remodeling of this established restaurant featuring authentic cuisine from the interior of Mexico provided the unique opportunity to recreate an underutilized courtyard as an interior dining atrium that maintains its characteristic outdoor feel.
The remodel also established a new point of entry and rationalized the circulation of the restaurant while working within a limited budget.
Hand-crafted building materials and elements imported from Mexico and features of the design include cantera stone quatrefoils, wood doors, hand-painted tile, brass and copper lighting fixtures, and various antiques.
Remodeling and construction of additional spaces occurred while the restaurant remained open for business. The project was recognized in the Design Awards Program of the Austin Chapter for the American Institute of Architects.
